Psychiatrist treat and cure people who have mental illnesses. A Psychiatrist will go to any extent to help the patient and cure him of his mental illness only then will the patient be able to give his full concentration on his work at hand. A Psychiatrist generally commits himself for the mental well being of the patient. Psychiatrists have both medical and psychological training so they are really recommended.

Psychiatrist has to deal with patients having problems like anxiety disorders, depression or abuse. Mostly are caused by some bad incident in the past and it leaves some scars behind in the process, it is essential to remove these mental scars for better functioning of the body and mind. Some are also caused by the biological reasons such as some chemical imbalance in the brain. They also prescribe drugs to help those patients relax; also they suggest some mind relaxing exercises. They counsel patients and discuss their problems making them aware of themselves. Psychiatrist review the complete history of the patient and help them find cause of the problem, they also refer to the other Psychiatrist or health specialists the patient has worked with, to know more about the patient.

When any Psychiatrist gets new patient he starts by gathering information about the patient. They meet the patient and ask them about their history in mental problems and whether they had some problems in the family as well. The gather all the data and find out the cause of the distress to the patient. There are also certain biological tests performed on the patients to know about his physical conditions and if it has any relations with his mental condition or illness.

After complete analysis they formulate a treatment plan for the patient and try to solve their mental illness, some also prescribe medications for the same. In some cases the patient is required to be admitted in hospitals and is kept under constant surveillance. The Psychiatrist check for the working of his plan and if it id not working and patient does not get relief he adjusts his plans accordingly. They may also talk with family members for help.

Psychiatrist keep a detailed report of the patients history and changes, they use these records for many legal purposes also. They require constantly updating themselves to learn new treatment methods and even taking classes to learn them. Some very high level Psychiatrists also so research work and publish articles to help his fellow Psychiatrists. There are different Psychiatrists according to age groups some specialize in helping the kids while some specialize in treating older citizens. Now there are even forensic Psychiatrists who are require testifying in court of law.
