The psychiatrist doctor has to take four years of residency training in psychiatric department. Here he gets valuable skills in various forms of psychotherapy and in the use of psychiatric medicines and other treatments.

After finishing the residency the psychiatrist takes a voluntary examination given by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology to become a board certified psychiatrist.
After completion of these course they can become a sub Specialists in many fields in psychology like child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, psychiatry in general medicine etc according to their interest in the particular specialty,
Psychiatrists do private practice. They don’t need much investments. They can have a small clinic and take the patients to the hospital for investigations and admission. To keep himself updated he needs to get himself attached to a psychiatric hospital
