Psychology is the field of Medicine that deals with patient who are mentally affected. The doctor who specializes in this field is known as a psychiatrist. The psychiatrists are trained to deal with mental illnesses including substance abuse and addiction. They have a full knowledge of the many causes of patient’s feelings and symptoms. They examine the patients, interact with them and find out the cause of their problem and then treat them.

In the fast life everyone is busy in their own routine and never find time to sit and interact with the family members as in the olden days when family members used to sit and talk with each other. Due to this people tend to keep their feelings deep in their heart and hence get tensed thinking of the same things again and again and keep worrying about small things. Even small events appear big to these people and they loose appetite and sleep. Some patients hear voices and tend to have suicide tendency. They start feeling that their life is a waste and they feel they don’t have a goal in their life. The psychiatrist sits with the patient and talks and asks them to have some lab tests and then comes to a diagnosis and then start the treatment.

A person who wants to become a psychiatrist has to finish his schooling and join an arts college taking biological and physical sciences as his major. If he is specific he can even take social and psychological sciences and psychobiology. Then they enter the Medical school where they learn psychiatry, behavioral science, and neuroscience for the first two years. In the next two years of their medical school they have to do clerkships in five different medical specialties. Psychiatrist takes psychiatric clerkship where they learn to treat psychiatric patients. After completing four years in medical school they join residency training in a hospital. The psychiatrist doctor has to take four years of residency training in psychiatric department. Here he gets valuable skills in various forms of psychotherapy and in the use of psychiatric medicines and other treatments.

After finishing the residency the psychiatrist takes a voluntary examination given by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology to become a board certified psychiatrist.
After completion of these course they can become a sub Specialists in many fields in psychology like child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, psychiatry in general medicine etc according to their interest in the particular specialty,
Psychiatrists do private practice. They don’t need much investments. They can have a small clinic and take the patients to the hospital for investigations and admission. To keep himself updated he needs to get himself attached to a psychiatric hospital
